The Oakland Opera Theater production will fuse characters and themes from
Stein's libretto with English and Spanish mystery plays, a through-composed
score; a live orchestra; dance; and modern technology. The work will be
set in multiple time periods and locations simultaneously & with music
being the connective element. Video, designed by Ethan Hoerneman, will
play a prominent role in the work with some footage coming from archival
sources and some being shot with the actors and singers involved in the
production.
